--The Dental Screenings in the schools had “added value” this year. Working with Stacie Wright and Rick Harper, Student Health Coordinators for the two school systems, the dental screenings, height, weight, blood pressure, vision and hearing, have been collected for school year 07-08. It is now time for the CHAMP and DATA Departments of ALQI to follow up on those children who were diagnosed as having a dental problem and whose parents may not know about it. We offer assistance with scheduling, transportation, or funding when needed. The focus is on getting the child well and keeping them in school. We appreciate the cooperation of the teachers and schools.
--Dr. Allen Daniels, dentist at the Scott County Dental Clinic, has announced his resignation effective December 21. Dr. Daniels has been with the Clinic since January of 2003 and has been a great asset to the Clinic. We wish him well in Cincinnati. |
--We are actively working to find a replacement. If you know of anyone, please pass this information along. You may contact me at alqi@highland.net or 423-569-2677. |

--Like other locations in the nation, we are in desperate need of bell ringers. We need live bodies from 9:00 am to 7:00pm at both doors in front of Wal-Mart in Oneida. We can schedule you for 1 or 2 hour slots. It would be so helpful to us if your company would take a full day and YOU schedule your people from 9 to 7 at both the doors. It is fun; it is rewarding; it is cold but you can step inside and warm up at any time; you see people you have forgotten about; and most of all, you are helping support the "past-due utility" program. Just ringing 1 hour will bring in enough money for us to help one or more families with a heating bill that is about to be cut off. Step outside the box and put yourself in the shoes of someone who has lost their job, had large medical bills, etc. It is terrible to see someone struggling to keep their family warm. --On November 9th I traveled to Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA to receive the Purpose Prize Award for my work here at ALQI. It was a wonderful time and I met so many people from all across our nation who are making a difference in this world. Like the people here in Scott County, they saw a need and stepped up to the plate to do something about it. |
--The nominations are now open for 2008 and I encourage you to look at the criteria required and find someone you know to nominate. Basically you have to be over 50 years old and have started a program that is making a difference in our world. You may learn more at PurposePrize.org. (Yes, they let me sneak in even thought I am only 39) |
